Liminal Island

An island for people in between.

Practices, gatherings, and company for the passage.

Water, movement, philosophy, and other people who don’t fit in one box either.

A full moon over a clouded volcano at twilight, its light running down the water to a palm-lined shore.

You’ve done the work. You’re still not sure.

Most of what’s offered to people like us assumes something is broken. That confusion needs healing. That uncertainty is a stage you pass through on the way to being sorted. That a person who teaches should be permanently calm, permanently well, permanently arrived.

None of that has been true for me, and I’ve stopped pretending it will be.

Liminal Island is built on a different premise: you are not a problem to be solved. You are complicated on purpose. The contradictions you’ve been apologising for — the meditator who overthinks, the one who loves people and is exhausted by them, the yogi who dances until sunrise — are not the parts to be resolved. They’re the parts that make you useful to the world in a way nobody else is.

Balance isn’t a place you arrive at. Stand rigid on a slackline and you fall. You stay up by falling and correcting, falling and correcting. The swing is the balancing. There’s no morning you wake up finished.

So there’s nothing here to fix. There are practices, gatherings, and people. And the quiet, considerable relief of not having to be certain.

We are perfect as we are, and we are designed this complex, paradoxical way to balance all of this madness happening around us.

Five ways in.

Not a curriculum and not a sequence. Enter wherever you already are.

  • Body as Portal

Fascia, yin, breath, touch, and the slow work of coming back into the thing you live in.

  • Mind as Map

Patterns, shadows, and the stories you’ve mistaken for facts.

  • Heart as Guide

Self-worth that isn’t earned. Acceptance that isn’t resignation.

  • Life as Ritual

Small repeated acts that hold you when nothing else does. The half-moon. The morning page.

  • Journey as Adventure

Water, depth, movement, distance. Freediving, open water, and going somewhere you can’t get to alone.

Some of these have doors already. Others are still being built.

Steady in the Not-Knowing

Seven practices for the parts of the passage nobody prepares you for.

Seven short practices — some in the body, some on paper, some that take four minutes in the sea. None of them will make you certain. All of them will make the uncertainty easier to stand in.

Written for people who have done a lot of inner work and are still, quietly, in the middle of it.

Island Post

A postcard from the island when the moon is half — a line, a reminder, something to help you stay put in your own worth. Sometimes a song. Occasionally an invitation.

Sent by Caracol, who has been carrying his house on his back for some time and has opinions about it.

A session with the Wayfinder

Sixty minutes, online, just us. Bring whatever you’re in the middle of — a body that won’t cooperate, a practice that’s gone flat, a decision you keep circling. We’ll work with what’s actually there.

I’m not a therapist and this isn’t therapy. It’s a person who has been in the water a long time, paying close attention to you for an hour.
